February Prayer Breakfast

Guest Speaker: Kerry Klontz

Kerry was baptized, confirmed and received first communion in the Catholic Church but did not understand that he could know God in a real and personal way. He grew up with an abusive father who forced him to go to church until he was old enough to rebel and turn away from religion. He became very messed up as a teenager and was on a spiral downward until he did find that personal relationship with the Lord. Immediately after Kerry turned his life over to Jesus Christ a transformation took place that totally turned his life around. Kerry was also told by a friend who was mentoring him to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to teach him. One day, kneeling by his bed, asking the Holy Spirit to teach him (before reading his bible) Kerry was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in tongues. When this happened Kerry did not know it was the gift of tongues or the baptism of the Holy Spirit. However this caused him to seek to learn more about the Holy Spirit as he attended various protestant churches that believed in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Kerry grew in his faith and intimacy with the Lord over the years, as he was involved in music and prayer ministry and evangelism.

Eventually Kerry and his wife Janet became pastors of a small Church in Camrose and spent five years pouring their life into this ministry. After this time they resigned and Kerry went back to work full time at Engineering. A few months after they left pastoring, the church where they had been was “shut down.” This was a terrible blow to Kerry and Janet and they went through a five-year period of spiritual desolation. About three years ago Kerry and Janet attended a healing mass at Sacred Heart Church in Wetaskiwin. They continued to go to mass regularly and Kerry began feeling the joy of the Lord returning and felt as though he was coming alive again. Kerry and Janet attended the next ‘Life in the Spirit’ weekend. At this point Kerry felt like he had come home. Kerry is involved in music ministry at Sacred Heart, has been part of the Life in the Spirit core team and recently has been commissioned by Father Nilo Macapinlac to form a healing ministry team that has begun regular Healing Services after the 5:30 p.m. Mass on the first Saturday of each month. He has been married to his wife Janet for 18 years. They have a grandson, from Kerry’s first marriage, that they have invested their lives in for the past ten years. Janet is a Registered Social Worker and currently employed as a counselling therapist with the Primary Care Network. Kerry and Janet also decided to become foster parents. On March 28th, 2017, which was Kerry’s 60th birthday, two foster children who are twins, a boy and a girl, now thirteen years old, came to live with Kerry and Janet. Kerry often says that “the Lord gave him a double blessing on his 60th birthday.” Like many things we go through in life, foster parenting has also not been easy but it is a gift from God to not only help these children, but to help Kerry and Janet grow in patience and love through the grace of God.
